Joseph started to draw and paint at a young age. In his early teens he began copying old masters and also painted images of people and landscapes from life painting. After graduating from high school he decided to pursue the art career and entered the Academia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy. Here he graduated with a fine art degree in 1975. During his studies he started traveling and painting throughout Europe always returning to his home and studio in Florence.
In 1981 he moved to the United States and made Texas his home. He spends every summer in Europe painting on location. His favorite place besides Tuscany became Liguria on the Italian Riviera and Cote Azure, which he considers his second home. This region with its light and climate of the Mediterranean creates a perfect ambiance to relax. It also energizes and inspires him, as it has so many artists over the ages, especially the Impressionists.
Joseph Loli considers himself fortunate to be able to live in both worlds, old and new. His art reflects the beauty and joy of living. He works in oil, watercolor and pastel. His originals and limited edition prints can be found in private and public collections throughout Europe and the United States
